The Lack Of Updates

Yes, I know that the updates fell off faster than any football player's performance while dating anyone named Reid or Simpson. Several things are in the works, however, not only with this site but with a new project to be unveiled this spring.

Stay tuned.

How taxes work

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all
ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes,
it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

The fifth would pay $1.

The sixth would pay $3.

The seventh would pay $7.

The eighth would pay $12.

The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the
arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. "Since you
are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost
of your daily beer by $20." Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so
the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.
But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could
they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair
share?' They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they
subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the
sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar
owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by
roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each
should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).

The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four
continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men
began to compare their savings.

"I only got a dollar out of the $20,"declared the sixth man. He
pointed to the tenth man," but he got $10!"

"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar,
too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than me!"

"That's true" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back
when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!"

"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get
anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine
sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the
bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough
money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and college professors, is
exactly how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes
get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack
them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In
fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is
somewhat friendlier.

Subprime Substupidity

Will we ever, ever learn...

Word all over the news today that Bush wants to "freeze" subprime mortgage rates. Let's call it what it really is; the term they used in the 70's: Price Controls.

Remember those good ol' days? Sky high unemployment, a crashing economy and double-digit inflation is all it bought us then, and this slippery slope away from free-market forces leads us right back to the same point.

Why should people, mortgage companies OR homebuyers, be saved by the government from their own stupidity? Why should yours and my tax dollars go to bailing out someone else just because they bought a house they KNEW they couldn't afford or an investment firm retarded enough to GIVE them hundreds of thousands, or in some cases, MILLIONS of dollars without so much as verifying whether they could even REMOTELY pay it back?

One has to wonder how much farther down this slippery slope we will fall before the lemmings of society wake up to find they have almost nothing left because government has taken everything in taxes "for the greater good"

In closing, I leave you with the words of someone who claims to only want what is best for you:

"Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you," Sen. Clinton said. "We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

Kansas throws the book at Planned Parenthood

29 counts of "Unlawful Failure to Determine Viability for Late Term Abortion"

29 counts of "Unlawful Late Term Abortion"

107 counts in all.

So.... which moonbat here is going to step up to the plate this time to defend these 29 murders?

Here is Planned Parenthood's response:

Peter Brownlie, president of Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri, said the organization would fight the charges against its Overland Park clinic and eventually be exonerated. Kline, he said, is using the district attorney’s office to further his own ambition to make abortion illegal.

“We can’t allow anti-choice politicians to harass and intimidate women or doctors in Kansas,” Brownlie said at a Thursday news conference. “… No health care provider should be threatened with felony convictions simply because elected officials oppose legal abortion.”

-

... Read that last sentence again.

Now read it once more.

From Kansascity.com:

The 23 felony counts Kline filed Wednesday allege that Planned Parenthood submitted false pregnancy termination reports to a court on Aug. 21 in response to a subpoena. Planned Parenthood said the reports were copies of original reports kept in patient files and sent to the state, the district attorney’s office alleges.

Twenty-six misdemeanor counts allege that Planned Parenthood failed to maintain termination reports for 26 cases from 2003.

The clinic also is accused of performing illegal late-term abortions in those same cases and in three others that took place that year, accounting for 29 misdemeanor counts. Those abortions allegedly were done without a finding that they were medically necessary. Kline also filed 29 misdemeanor counts accusing Planned Parenthood of failing to perform viability tests on the fetuses.
